It is pretty safe to say that Chelsea are unlikely to qualify for the Champions League from here. That being said, there is still quite a bit to play for. Finishing the season strong and at least making Europe is important. There are four games left in the Premier League campaign and the Blues should be looking to win as many of them as possible.
Next up is a game against Nottingham Forest. Even though the opposition sit at 16th in the table, they are the favourites based on form. They have not lost in their last six outings in the league. That includes draws against Manchester City and Aston Villa.
Their last game was a win over Aston Villa in the Europa League semi-final. Their last outing in the league was a 5-0 win over Sunderland. So, they will be entering this game high on confidence.
On the other hand, Chelsea have lost their last five Premier League games without scoring a goal. They need to stop that run. Fortunately, there is some good news leading up to the game.
Chelsea handed good news ahead of Nottingham Forest match
Two of Chelsea’s most important players are closing in on their return to first-team action. We are talking about none other than Levi Colwill and Reece James.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea interim boss Calum McFarlane said:
“Reece is back in training. Levi is back in training. Both looking good. Both are looking promising.”
James’ injury was always thought to be a medium-term one. Colwill has not played a single game for the senior team this season, having suffered an ACL injury in pre-season itself. But he has featured a couple of times for youth and developmental sides lately. So, a return to action for the senior team might not be far away either. It is unclear whether either of them will be involved against Nottingham Forest or not. But overall, this is brilliant news for the Blues.
Chelsea’s key players finally closing in on fitness
Obviously, James has a history of injuries. For the most part, he has remained fit over the past year, as the load management has helped. That being said, considering his situation, no risks should be taken and he should be gradually brought back into the fold.
On the other hand, Colwill is returning from an ACL injury. It remains to be seen how he looks when he does get back on the pitch. One can only hope that it does not end up affecting his game in the long run. It has become very clear in his absence that he is the best centre-back the club have got.
Whether they are available against Nottingham Forest or not remains to be seen. But it is wonderful to see them being close to a return.
