It will be very interesting to see what kind of players Chelsea try to sign in the summer transfer window. Several reliable sources have suggested that BlueCo are looking to tweak their policy. This time around, they will look at those proven in the Premier League or at an equivalent level.
Of course, this is what the fans have been calling out for for quite some time. Chelsea have constantly signed some of the top youngsters in the game. But for them to develop properly, they need some experience and proven quality in the dressing room, to guide them if nothing else.
It is hard to imagine that Chelsea will make a complete U-turn and start going for veterans this summer. But it would not be a surprise if they go after established top-level players in their mid-20s.
One such player they have been linked with is Angelo Stiller. Reports in Germany have suggested that the midfielder is on the radar of Chelsea, as well as several other clubs. And now, things have been made easier for the Blues, if they do want him.
Chelsea transfer target has release clause
According to Florian Plettenberg, Stiller has a release clause of up to €40 million. A key factor for his future could be Champions League qualification with VfB Stuttgart.
The report further goes on to add that top clubs from England are closely monitoring the situation. Juventus have registered their interest in the midfielder as well.
Stiller is 25 years of age. He has already played a few times for Germany at the international level. And he has earned comparisons with Toni Kroos for his style of play. It might be time for him to take the next step. Could that be Chelsea?
Angelo Stiller could be a good replacement for Enzo Fernandez
While there has not been as much talk about Fernandez’s future over the past couple of weeks, that does not mean that it is settled. There is still a decent possibility that he could depart Chelsea in the summer.
Admittedly, Stiller is not a box-crashing midfielder who will score a load of goals. But that was not the role Fernandez was brought in to play either.
During his early days at Chelsea, Fernandez was a deep-lying playmaker who controlled the game. It was a Kroos-esque role for sure. Stiller would have no problems being that, if the Blues decide to shake up the system a bit and go that route.
