‘Currently the leading candidate’ – Major news on next Chelsea manager

Chelsea fans are eagerly waiting on the club to appoint their next manager. After four rather disappointing years since the BlueCo takeover, the owners must know that they need to get this appointment right. They have had enough time to implement their ideas. It has not worked. In fact, it has failed miserably. Now, it is time for conventional football wisdom to prevail and for the best option to be brought in.

To be fair, judging from the recent speculation, it does seem like things might be headed in that direction. Most Chelsea fans would like to see Xabi Alonso get the job. And for them, there is some good news.

According to The Bluesfeed, multiple conversations have taken place with Alonso and his representatives. While nothing is decided, the Spanish manager is currently the leading candidate.

Chelsea have also spoken to the entourages of other managers who are currently still at other clubs, but not directly to the individual out of respect for the current campaign. But there’s a growing internal feeling that changes are needed to get the project back on track.

Positive update on Chelsea’s next manager

There are two things about that update that will raise the hopes of Chelsea fans. First, of course, is that Alonso seems to be in pole position for the job.

Other names like Andoni Iraola and Marco Silva have been suggested constantly by the media as well. But they simply do not have the gravity that someone like Alonso does.

In fact, The Bluesfeed was asked in the comments about Silva. The outlet replied:

Our understanding is Silva is very unlikely. It’s other managers like Iraola for example

Also, since multiple conversations have taken place with Alonso’s camp, as the report suggests, there must be some decent level of interest on their part as well. Otherwise, they could have walked away by now.

Alonso would be the right choice to be the next manager

Earlier this morning, there were reports that Chelsea were willing to offer Alonso more control over matters. Now, this update about multiple conversations and the Spaniard being the leading candidate. Finally, it feels like things are moving in a positive direction.

Obviously, there is no guarantee that Alonso would be a success even if Chelsea manage to hire him. That being said, he is one of the few names on the shortlist that has a proven track record of success.

The Spaniard won the Bundesliga and DFB Pokal double with Bayer Leverkusen without losing a single game. At Real Madrid, it did not really work out. But then, just look at what is going on at the Bernabeu right now, and it will give an idea of how difficult that situation must have been to manage.

Out of all the names that have been linked with the club over the last few weeks, to me, Alonso feels like the right fit. Now, it is about BlueCo being able to convince him and getting a deal over the line.
