Chelsea could look to strengthen their wing department in the summer once again. The Blues did spend heavily last summer to bring in Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United and Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund. Neither has managed to convince that they are capable of being a long-term success at Stamford Bridge.
As a result, Chelsea are already being linked with wingers. And it looks like an Englishman, currently playing for Bologna in Serie A, is on their radar.
The Englishman has enjoyed a great campaign at Bologna since joining the club in the summer from Marseille. Not just that, if reports coming out of Italy are accurate, then Chelsea are already preparing a significant offer in hopes of signing the winger.
Chelsea preparing bid for former Norwich City winger
It is a name that will be familiar to fans of English football. Jonathan Rowe broke into English football with Norwich City. His impressive performances there earned him a move to Marseille. And now, he finds himself playing for Bologna. That is a decent bit of experience under the belt of someone who is still just 23 years of age.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sport Witness), Bologna face a real fight to keep Rowe this summer. The Italian club are more than aware of growing rumours that suggest Chelsea are preparing an offer of €38 million.
The only thing that is said to be stopping Chelsea, at present, is that they may not be in the Champions League next season. So, it remains to be seen if the Blues make their move or not.
Would Jonathan Rowe be the right signing for the Blues?
It is more than likely that Chelsea will not make the Champions League next season. So, if their move hinges on qualification to Europe’s elite competition, do not expect to see Rowe at Stamford Bridge anytime soon.
Obviously, Chelsea’s transfer plans will need to adapt according to their Champions League fate. By now, they should start preparing for the alternative.
Rowe’s disciplinary record should be one worth considering before making any move as well. Let’s not forget, Marseille let him go after a dressing room fight with Adrien Rabiot.
Also, is someone like Rowe ready to come and make an impact at Chelsea? Or would he be another sideways signing, something that the Blues have been making regularly under BlueCo, which is why the club has not moved forward?
