Chelsea agree to 24-year-old player’s exit this summer

Chelsea will have a lot of work to do in this summer transfer window. Having finished 10th in the Premier League, the room for improvement is clearly there. Xabi Alonso is also expected to arrive with his own set of ideas on how to improve things. That leaves the Blues in a tough spot, especially with the financial situation right now.

Chelsea have not had a long-term front-of-shirt sponsor in years. They have failed to qualify for the Champions League in three out of the last four seasons. Poor performances mean that a number of their players’ transfer valuations would have gone down. And the club posted record losses recently.

All of this combined and it will be very interesting to see how Chelsea could undergo a rebuild this summer. It might be necessary for them to let some players leave first.

Of course, some exits might end up having a negative impact on the team. Others might not. According to The Athletic, Filip Jorgensen has asked to leave, and his wish will be granted.

Chelsea are ready to let Jorgensen leave

Jorgensen was signed for a transfer fee believed to be in the region of £20 million from Villarreal. He has never been able to meet expectations though.

Perhaps Jorgensen’s game is not cut out for English football. He has struggled with the physical side of things and looks unsure when dealing with aerial balls.

We have seen that even when taking on lower league opposition in the cup competitions. And of course, we all know how things turned out when he was handed the start against PSG in the Champions League.

So, his Chelsea career might not be headed anywhere of note. It is not hard to understand why the Blues might have quickly agreed to his request. Let’s see where his future lies.

Mike Penders could be playing a factor

Mike Penders is someone who has been highly rated for many years now. In fact, many have gone as far as touting him to be the next Thibaut Courtois.

That is a bold statement. Courtois is one of the best goalkeepers of his generation, if not the very best. And just like Penders, he was signed by Chelsea from Genk.

Now, if you look at how Penders has done out on loan, it might be time for him to take the next step. He was one of the best goalkeepers in Ligue 1 last season.

Could be the backup option for Chelsea next season? Perhaps even the starter? In that scenario, the club do not really need Jorgensen anymore.

matchday.
