For the past few weeks, it is Barcelona who have been linked with Chelsea players. Joao Pedro was viewed as one of their top targets, if they failed to get Julian Alvarez. But the Blues appear to have no interest in parting with the Brazilian forward this summer. Marc Cucurella could also be in line for a reunion with his boyhood club. It remains to be seen if that plays out. It feels a lot more realistic.
That being said, now, Chelsea are also being linked with one of Barcelona’s players. And it is someone who has Premier League experience, which is being viewed as a key factor when it comes to the club’s transfer business this summer.
Chelsea could do with more options in their forward ranks. Robert Lewandowski has been suggested as a potential solution. But it looks like their eyes are on Ferran Torres of Barcelona if reports are accurate.
According to TEAMtalk, there are doubts around Torres’ future at Barcelona. He has been left frustrated after finding himself discussed as a potential component in the club’s pursuit of Alvarez. Arsenal, Aston Villa and Chelsea are clubs monitoring developments closely.
Chelsea linked with move for 21-goal Barcelona forward
Torres is not someone who gets a lot of headlines. A lot of Barcelona’s fans do not seem to rate him highly either. But he has put up the numbers.
Torres scored 16 goals in La Liga this season, as Barcelona won the competition. That included a hattrick against Real Betis and also a goal in the El Clasico against Real Madrid.
There is also a belief that Torres is not a great finisher. And we did see a glimpse of that when Chelsea met Barcelona in the Champions League. He had a one-on-one chance early in the game and put it wide from close range.
That being said, the stats tell a different story about his finishing. In La Liga, he had a xG of 13.67 and scored 16 goals. So, he outperformed his numbers.
Would Torres be a good signing for the Blues?
There are a lot of things that are going Torres’ way. He has played for a top club like Barcelona and understands the pressure that comes with it.
It will be the same at Chelsea, if not worse, as the fans are desperate for some success. But his 21 goals suggest he can deliver.
Also, let’s not forget that he was part of Manchester City at one point in time. So, the Premier League is not unfamiliar for him.
That being said, there is also all the criticism that he faces from Barcelona fans. There has to be some substance behind that, which should make Chelsea wary.
