Chelsea should sign Man Utd player as Fabrizio Romano confirms news

The summer transfer window is just days away from officially opening. Already, some decisions have been made. And Chelsea might have been presented with an opportunity to sign a Manchester United player for a very reasonable transfer fee.

Yes, Chelsea did sign Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United last summer. And we all know that it did not work out.

That being said, that does not mean that there is no talent to bring in from Old Trafford. In fact, they might be the chance to pull off a bargain move this summer.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona will not pay the €30m option to buy clause for Marcus Rashford. The Englishman is formally set to return to Man United, but Barca remain open to new solutions, like another loan deal.

Why Chelsea should swoop in for Rashford this summer

Barcelona have already signed Anthony Gordon. So, it looks like they are not willing to pay a transfer fee to sign Rashford this summer.

That does open up the opportunity for Chelsea to make their move. And to be honest, it might not be a bad idea to sign Rashford, considering the situation on the left flank.

Firstly, the club need to find a new home for Garnacho, which is clearly not working out. I have my doubts about Jamie Gittens as well but it seems like the club feel he has not gotten enough chances to show what he is capable of.

That is a fair assessment of things, to be fair. Gittens was injured a lot. And unlike Garnacho, he did not come in from the Premier League and should be given some time to adjust.

Rashford, on the other hand, had an excellent campaign at Barcelona. He scored 14 goals and provided 14 assists in just 2622 minutes of football in total.

Rashford ticks all the boxes Chelsea are looking for

Chelsea are believed to be looking for Premier League-proven and experienced players this summer. It is safe to say that Rashford would tick both those boxes, having made 426 appearances for Man Utd and registered 217 goal contributions.

A €30 million transfer fee would be very reasonable. Rashford is still just 28 years old and might only be entering his prime.

In the right team, he can still be a positive contributor. Just look at how well he did at Barcelona last season.

It would be very similar to the move Bayer Leverkusen made for Granit Xhaka, when Xabi Alonso was their manager. A Premier League veteran who was heavily criticised but proved his value. Rashford could achieve something similar under the Spaniard.
