Nicolas Jackson Swap Idea Gives Chelsea A New Andrea Cambiaso Route

Chelsea’s search for a Marc Cucurella replacement may now have a sharper edge, with Nicolas Jackson reportedly emerging as a possible part of the club’s route to Andrea Cambiaso.

According to Football Italia, citing Gazzetta dello Sport, Chelsea have asked Juventus to consider a swap structure involving Jackson after struggling to match the Italian club’s asking price for Cambiaso.

Get Football News Italy has also reported that discussions between Chelsea and Juventus have broadened to include Jackson, with Barcelona also linked with the Italy international.

That makes this more than another left-back rumour.

Chelsea need a real answer after Cucurella’s move to Real Madrid, and ReadChelsea has already looked at why Jorrel Hato became Chelsea’s first real test after Cucurella’s exit.

But one young defender should not carry the whole left-sided solution for Xabi Alonso.

Why The Jackson Detail Matters

The Jackson element is the part Chelsea supporters will naturally lock onto.

Cambiaso had already entered the ReadChelsea radar after the Blues made their first move for the Juventus defender. A player-plus-cash route would change the conversation from admiration to negotiation shape.

Jackson’s position at Stamford Bridge has felt uncertain for a while.

He still carries athletic value, European experience and resale logic, but Chelsea’s attacking plan has moved quickly. Alonso’s arrival only sharpens the question of who fits the next version of this squad.

That is why this story feels more important than another name on a long list.

If Chelsea are genuinely prepared to use Jackson as leverage, they clearly see Cambiaso as more than a speculative left-back option.

It also hints that the front line could be trimmed to solve a defensive problem created elsewhere.

Cambiaso Would Answer A Real Chelsea Need

Cucurella’s exit has left Chelsea with an awkward balance issue.

Hato can play there and still has a huge ceiling, but Chelsea would take a risk by asking him to absorb the whole left-sided responsibility straight away.

Cambiaso’s appeal is obvious. He can operate as a full-back, step inside and give a coach tactical flexibility without forcing the whole team into one fixed shape.

For a Chelsea side that have spent too much of the last few years buying talent before defining roles, that matters.

The move would also sit inside the wider defensive rebuild. ReadChelsea has already covered how Maxence Lacroix now gives Chelsea another transfer test after Cucurella’s exit.

Cambiaso belongs in the same broader bracket.

Chelsea do not just need another defender. They need a back line that can support Alonso’s football.

Chelsea Must Be Careful With Jackson’s Value

The danger, as ever, is Chelsea turning a sensible squad idea into a complicated market puzzle.

Jackson should not enter a deal simply because his future looks uncertain. If Chelsea include him, they must extract proper value and land a player they genuinely believe can start or rotate heavily.

That matters because the club have already made one major defensive decision this week.

Cucurella’s Real Madrid move puts pressure on the recruitment team to show a plan behind the sale, not just a fee banked and a problem delayed.

ReadChelsea’s wider Chelsea transfer update around Cucurella, Adam Wharton and Morgan Rogers showed how many moving parts Alonso now faces.

This remains a reported transfer proposal rather than a deal close to completion.

But the logic is clear enough.

Chelsea need a left-sided solution, Juventus have a player who fits, and Jackson may be one of the few movable pieces with enough value to change the calculation.

If Chelsea can make that work without undervaluing their own striker, this could become the sort of practical transfer move supporters have wanted to see.
