Chelsea’s 2026/27 Premier League fixtures have given Xabi Alonso an immediate London derby test, with the Blues opening away to Fulham on Monday 24 August.
The Chelsea fixture list also ends with a West London derby, as Brentford visit Stamford Bridge on Sunday 30 May. For supporters, that gives the new season a clean storyline: a derby start, a derby finish and plenty of pressure points in between.
Chelsea’s first league match will be shown live on Sky Sports as the opening Monday Night Football of the campaign. It gives Alonso a sharp Premier League introduction at Craven Cottage, where the mood around his side will be judged quickly.
The first Stamford Bridge league game follows five days later, when Brighton visit SW6 on Saturday 29 August. Before that, Chelsea are also scheduled for Carabao Cup second-round action.
Arsenal Away Gives Chelsea Early Reality Check
Chelsea’s first major test arrives early, with Arsenal away scheduled for Saturday 5 September.
That fixture will quickly show how far Alonso’s structure has come by the start of September. It will also place extra focus on Chelsea’s summer business, especially with ReadChelsea already looking at how the Chelsea transfer picture has sharpened around Cucurella, Wharton and Morgan Rogers.
The opening month then brings Hull City at home and Brentford away before the first international pause. On paper, that gives Chelsea a mixed start rather than a brutal one.
But it only helps if Alonso’s squad has clarity early. Chelsea cannot spend August still waiting for key roles to settle.
October And December Could Define The Mood
The first Tottenham meeting comes at Stamford Bridge on Saturday 24 October, followed by Manchester United at home a week later.
That two-game stretch could quickly shape the mood around Chelsea’s autumn. Tottenham at home always carries emotional weight, while United at Stamford Bridge still feels like a marker fixture regardless of league position.
December looks even more demanding.
Chelsea host Liverpool on Saturday 5 December before travelling to Manchester City on Saturday 12 December. Aston Villa then visit Stamford Bridge on Saturday 19 December, before Chelsea face Coventry City away on Boxing Day.
That is the kind of run where squad depth becomes more than a buzzword. It tests rotation, defensive balance and the ability to manage games without losing intensity.
That matters because Chelsea’s defensive rebuild already feels important. ReadChelsea has covered how the Marco Palestra setback gave Chelsea a clear transfer warning, and the fixture list only strengthens that point.
May Run-In Leaves No Room To Drift
Chelsea’s final month is heavy.
The Blues go to Liverpool on Saturday 1 May, then travel to Tottenham a week later. Everton visit Stamford Bridge on Saturday 15 May, before Chelsea finish with Bournemouth away and Brentford at home.
That is not a gentle run-in. Liverpool and Tottenham away in consecutive weekends could become decisive if Chelsea are chasing Champions League football, silverware momentum or simply trying to prove Alonso’s first season has progressed.
The Brentford finale also gives the campaign another derby edge. If there is something riding on the final day, Stamford Bridge will not need much lifting.
Chelsea supporters will naturally scan the fixtures for the biggest names first, but the real story is rhythm. Fulham away starts the test. Arsenal away sharpens it. December stretches it. May may define it.
Alonso now has the route in front of him. Chelsea’s job is to make sure the squad is ready before the fixture list starts asking difficult questions.
