Enzo Maresca Agrees Manchester City Deal As Chelsea Compensation Clears £10m

Enzo Maresca has reportedly agreed a three-year contract to become Manchester City manager, with Chelsea set to receive a compensation package worth more than £10million.

The development moves a major Stamford Bridge subplot closer to resolution after weeks of uncertainty around Maresca’s next step and Chelsea’s financial return from his exit. The Italian, who previously worked inside City’s structure before taking charge at Chelsea, is now lined up to replace Pep Guardiola after the end of Guardiola’s long Etihad reign.

According to The Times’ report on Maresca’s Manchester City agreement, the deal is for three years and Chelsea are due a package above £10m because Maresca still had three years remaining on his Stamford Bridge contract.

Why This Matters For Chelsea

For Chelsea, the immediate issue is clarity. Maresca’s departure had already forced the club into a managerial reset, with Xabi Alonso preparing to start work, but a compensation figure above £10m gives the hierarchy a tangible return rather than a loose exit narrative.

It also sharpens the City-Chelsea dynamic before the new Premier League season. Maresca’s knowledge of the Chelsea squad, recruitment structure and dressing-room demands will follow him to a direct domestic rival, while Alonso inherits a club that needs quick authority after another turbulent summer.

Chelsea will not dress this as a footballing victory, but the financial settlement matters. In a market shaped by PSR pressure and aggressive squad trading, banking eight figures for a coach who had already chosen his next step is a useful piece of business.
