Nicolas Jackson Assist Cannot Save Senegal As Chelsea Forward Faces World Cup Pressure
Nicolas Jackson created Senegal’s stoppage-time second goal in New York New Jersey on Monday, but the Chelsea forward could not prevent a 3-2 World Cup defeat to Norway that leaves his country under major Group I pressure.
Jackson’s decisive contribution came in the 93rd minute, when he worked the ball across for Ismaila Sarr to finish and briefly drag Senegal back within one goal. It was a sharp late action from the 25-year-old, but Norway survived the final surge and secured their place in the round of 32.
According to NDTV’s Norway vs Senegal match report, Erling Haaland scored twice after Marcus Holmgren Pedersen had opened the scoring, while Sarr struck both Senegal goals.
Jackson Now Has One Game To Change Senegal’s Mood
For Chelsea, the useful detail is that Jackson kept pushing in a game that was slipping away. He also forced Orjan Nyland into a second-half save with a header and remained involved as Senegal chased a route back into the contest.
The bigger picture is less comfortable. Senegal have now lost twice in Group I, with France and Norway already moving clear. Jackson’s final group match against Iraq has become a genuine salvage job: win, improve the goal difference and hope the third-place table opens up.
That is a heavy international moment, but also a clear test of the edge Chelsea will want from him when he returns to club duty.
