Chelsea and Como remain apart on Trevoh Chalobah’s valuation after the Serie A side reportedly submitted a fresh offer for the defender.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Como have bid £21.5million plus £1.7million in add-ons for Chalobah as they continue to push for a deal.
Chelsea, however, are asking for £25.8million plus £4.3million in add-ons, taking their desired package to around £30.1million.
That leaves a clear gap between the two clubs, but the numbers also show that talks are now in a more serious phase.
Chalobah Sale Would Test Chelsea’s Defensive Depth
Chalobah’s future has become one of Chelsea’s most important defensive decisions of the summer.
The 26-year-old is a Cobham graduate, so any sale would carry strong accounting value for Chelsea. But the football decision is more complicated.
Read Chelsea has already looked at why Como’s interest created a valuation gap around Chalobah, and this latest bid sharpens that issue.
Chelsea are reshaping the defence under Xabi Alonso, with several centre-back profiles still under review. Selling Chalobah would raise funds, but it would also remove a versatile defender who can cover centre-back, right-back and back-three roles.
For Como, the attraction is obvious. Cesc Fabregas wants proven quality and Champions League-ready defenders, and Chalobah fits that brief.
For Chelsea, the key question is whether Como can move close enough to the asking price.
At this stage, the deal is not done. But the gap is now clear, and Chelsea’s next response will say plenty about how much they really value Chalobah in Alonso’s squad.
