Tyrique George Everton Move Gives Chelsea A Clean Xabi Alonso Sale

Chelsea winger Tyrique George is close to joining Everton permanently after his loan spell on Merseyside.

BBC Sport’s Nizaar Kinsella, via Yahoo Sports, reports that Everton are close to agreeing a deal with Chelsea for the 20-year-old, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Goodison Park.

Everton originally held a £25m option to buy, but the report states that the clubs have renegotiated the structure, with a lower upfront fee and add-ons now expected.

That matters for Chelsea because this is exactly the type of exit Xabi Alonso’s rebuild needs. George is talented, academy-developed and still young, but his pathway at Stamford Bridge has narrowed as Chelsea continue to reshape a large squad without European football.

Chelsea Need Sales As Alonso Rebuilds

George made 11 appearances for Everton, starting once, but impressed David Moyes during his four-month spell. In May, Moyes described him as “an excellent boy” with an “excellent work-rate” when asked about a possible permanent move.

Chelsea’s position is just as important. The Blues are continuing a major squad rebuild under Alonso after finishing 10th in the Premier League and missing out on Europe.

Read Chelsea has already analysed Alonso’s expected six-player exodus, with player sales likely to shape the first summer of his Stamford Bridge tenure. George now looks like one of the cleaner exits because Everton already know the player and want to keep him.

The deal also fits the wider Chelsea pattern. Read Chelsea’s Maxence Lacroix analysis showed how Alonso’s incoming work is focused on specific first-team profiles, while exits are needed to reduce the size of the squad and protect financial flexibility.

For George, Everton offer a clearer route to Premier League minutes. For Chelsea, a permanent sale would turn academy value into usable transfer capital.

That is the cold reality of this rebuild. Not every promising Cobham player can wait for a pathway that may never open. If Everton finalise the deal on the right structure, this should be one of Chelsea’s more straightforward summer decisions.
