Emiliano Martínez at Chelsea
Chelsea signed the Argentinian goalkeeper from Aston Villa for a fee of £7.5 million. Indeed, Alonso identified him as a key part of his goalkeeping overhaul. The experienced stopper made an immediate debut against Brighton just hours after his move. However, the match involved an unfortunate own goal from Joao Pedro that beat the new signing.
Therefore, his arrival places the future of Robert Sanchez in doubt. Similarly, the move signals Chelsea’s intent to add proven winners. The 195 cm tall goalkeeper brings significant presence to the penalty area. Moreover, he provides competition for the starting spot following his successful stint in the West Midlands.
