According to Didier Drogba’s new book, Commitment, the player has spoken about how Jose Mourinho’s message can wear thin over time.
Drogba quoted by Sport:
I believe things often come in three-year cycles (and) we had arrived at the end of such a cycle. By the start of the fourth (season) that Jose had been in charge, I think we had started to reach a point where it was sometimes harder for his message to get through. We wanted to hear it, we tried, but somehow we had lost a little bit of what made us special.
This is more evidence against Mourinho and his managerial style. This time, it comes from a reputable source. Drogba was a servant for Mourinho among his entire career, and the Ivorian often pledged his dedication to the cause. For him to comment about the Special One’s style means it must carry some truth. Drogba is not the only person or player to be critical of the Portuguese manager.

Perhaps it’s time that Mourinho reconsiders certain parts of demeanor. While the rough, tough and fierce style works in a short-term fashion, it may not allow him to be successful in longer stints. Given that he has come out several times expressing his desire to stay at Stamford Bridge for the long haul, it may be a good idea for him to revisit certain parts of his ideologies.
Mourinho often gets compared to managers like Sir Alex Ferguson, Pep Guardiola and other managerial greats. If he can learn from their styles, adding certain aspects to his philosophy, it’ll only help him be successful in the long run.
