Chelsea and Manchester United have reportedly sent scouts to watch Philipp Max of Augsburg ahead of a possible move in the January transfer window, according to the Daily Mail.
Max has been outstanding for Augsburg this Bundesliga season, appearing in every league game so far this season, scoring once.
The Blues have been eager to add a left-back to their ranks in recent months and Max is one of the names they are supposedly tracking. Manchester United are also in the market for a left-back with Luke Shaw and Matteo Darmian set to leave the club.
However, both clubs have also been linked with a move for Juventus wantaway left-back Alex Sandro, who is said to prefer a switch to Stamford Bridge as opposed to Old Trafford.
It’s clear that Sandro remains both clubs’ top target when the January window opens up, but Max has emerged as a more affordable alternative. Chelsea already have one former Augsburg standout on their books in Baba Rahman but the fullback has failed to make an impact at the club.
