Coming out of the weekend, Chelsea find themselves in a very difficult position. Everything that could have gone wrong, pretty much has. They lost 1-0 against Manchester United to fall further behind in the Champions League qualification race. And things only got worse from there. Liverpool and Aston Villa won their games as well. Realistically, they might already be out of reach with five more games to go.
In fact, Chelsea might miss out on European football altogether. They are now level on points with Brentford and Bournemouth. Even 14th placed Newcastle United are just six points behind.
Based on current form, there is only one direction in which Chelsea are headed between now and the end of the season. It is hard to see how BlueCo can justify sticking with Liam Rosenior beyond this season.
But on the other hand, just parting with the manager won’t solve the club’s problems. Quality players need to be brought in. Unfortunately, missing out on Champions League football would make that exponentially more difficult.
Chelsea’s advantage in Julian Alvarez race
Chelsea need a world-class striker to lead the line for them. Julian Alvarez is one player who has been linked with the Blues for months.
He is believed to be prioritising a move to Barcelona. But Chelsea are not out of the race yet. The Spanish club have their financial issues and will struggle to meet the asking price that is reported to be north of £100 million. Also, the Blues can offer Alvarez the role of a centre-forward, which is said to be the only role the Argentine wants to play at his next club.
Chelsea decision on Vinicius and Camavinga
Vinicius Jr and Eduardo Camavinga are two Real Madrid players Chelsea have been linked with lately. But it looks like neither is Stamford Bridge bound.
When it comes to Vinicius, it has been suggested that Chelsea have no interest in signing the Brazilian. And even if they did, the club would struggle to match the financial expectations required to pull it off.
On the other hand, it has been claimed that their interest in signing Camavinga is not as serious as some of their Premier League rivals.
Chelsea ready to let Garnacho leave
It was just last summer that Chelsea signed Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United for £40 million. It already looks like his time at the club is coming to an end.
Garnacho has faced heavy criticism coming out of the game against his former club at the weekend. And it has been suggested that the Chelsea hierarchy are now ready to part ways with him, recognising it is not working out.
