Tedesco talks up Schalke move for Baba Rahman

Baba Rahman has been left in limbo at Chelsea since the summer transfer window closed.

The left-back hasn’t featured for the Blues since the 2015/16 season, his debut season in English football following a £18m move from Augsburg, and under Antonio Conte, despite Chelsea lacking left-back cover for Marcos Alonso, he’s not been given as much of a sniff of first-team football this season.

After being sent to Schalke on loan last season, Rahman was beginning to rediscover the form that made him so sought after before suffering a season-ending ACL injury in January 2017.

Rahman returned to Chelsea to complete his rehab and there was talk of a second loan move to Schalke in the summer but the defender failed to prove his fitness and a loan switch fell through.

With the January window well under way and Rahman seemingly fit and ready for action, Schalke head coach Domenico Tedesco has revealed that he’s looking into bringing the Ghana international back.

One more player would be good for us, I’m thinking about Abdul Rahman Baba for the left wing above all.

He still has a flat here in Gelsenkirchen, he knows Schalke and Schalke knows him. If we could get him on loan from Chelsea for a longer spell we wouldn’t be averse. We are clarifying now how good his fitness is at the moment.

A loan move for the 23-year-old would be best for all involved at this moment in his career.
