Eden Hazard recently cast doubt over his Chelsea future and, now, according to The Telegraph, his club and national team-mate, Thibaut Courtois, has joined him in casting doubt over his future at Stamford Bridge.
Courtois has reportedly claimed that he has proven at this year’s World Cup that he is worth a lot more than the £200,000-a-week contract that Chelsea have offered him.
Courtois, like Hazard, had a very good World Cup for Belgium and he is now hoping that Real Madrid come looking for his services. However, while Chelsea want to desperately keep Hazard, they are prepared to let Courtois go as long as they are able to replace him with Brazil and Roma keeper Alisson.
The 26-year-old has 12 months left on his contract at Stamford Bridge, but he has stalled when it comes to committing himself to the club. He will have now upset Chelsea more by implying that they would need to increase that offer substantially before he even considers putting pen to paper.
When asked about his future at Chelsea, Courtois replied:
I will go back and I will see what they want and how they say it. Obviously, with this World Cup, I think what was on the table is different than what I can have.
In this World Cup, I have ignored all the speculation, all the rumours. But now, in the next few days, I will have a chat with my agent and see what Chelsea told him, and then we will talk. But I feel happy at Chelsea, it’s not that I necessarily want to leave.
