Neville calls for Chelsea to sack assistant after celebration

Former Manchester United player and current England women’s manager Phil Neville has urged Chelsea to sack assistant Manager Marco Ianni after his provocative celebrations in front of Jose Mourinho.

As reported on Talksport, the assistant coach jumped in front of Mourinho after Ross Barkley netted a late equaliser for the Blues at Stamford Bridge.

The celebration sparked an angry reaction from Mourinho, who chased after Ianni, only for several security members and backroom staff to diffuse to the situation.

Neville revealed that he was disgusted with Ianni’s actions and believes that he should be fired. Maurizio Sarri and Ianni have both apologised to Mourinho but Neville believes that is not enough. He said:

Whoever that staff member is of Chelsea has just been an absolute disgrace. No class, no humility.

He’s gone straight into the face of Jose Mourinho, Michael Carrick and the Manchester United bench and just celebrated in their face. Absolutely disgraceful. If I was Maurizio Sarri I’d send that guy in and sack him from the club.

Ever since he left Chelsea for the second time, Mourinho has not been welcomed back to Stamford Bridge with open arms by Chelsea fans. Following the draw, he made it clear that he deserves some sort of appreciation as he held up three fingers to the crowd, signifying the three Premier League titles that he won with the club.
