Chelsea eye Rafael as third-choice goalkeeper

Chelsea have been linked with a summer swoop for Cagliari goalkeeper Rafael.

According to a report from Tutto Cagliari, as cited by Calciomercato, the Blues want to land the experienced shot-stopper as a new third-choice option.

Rafael is 37-years-old and has a vast experience of playing regular first-team football in Italy.

However, for Cagliari this season, he has not featured at all. The experienced goalkeeper has not yet made a Serie A appearance this season and has only featured once in Coppa Italia fixtures.

Chelsea may be in need of further depth between the sticks. In the summer, Willy Caballero and Rob Green will see their short-term deals expire and Kepa Arrizabalaga will be the club’s only senior option available.

Rafael looks as though he will be available in the summer as his contract at Cagliari concludes, and the Blues look set to pounce as Maurizio Sarri taps into the Italian market for transfer targets.
