Atalanta have agreed to sign Mario Pasalic on a season-long loan deal from Chelsea, according to a report from Italian news outlet Calciomercato.
The Serie A side recruited the midfielder in a similar transfer last summer, with the 24-year-old proceeding to help them finish third in the table and secure Champions League qualification for next term.
Gian Piero Gasperini’s club had the option to make Pasalic’s stay in Bergamo permanent at the end of the 2018/19 campaign for €15 million but passed up on their chance because of the financial demands.
However, this does not appear to have stopped them pursuing another deal for the Croatia international, who is set to play for Atalanta once again next season.
Pasalic has not yet made a single appearance for Chelsea at senior level, and this trend looks likely to continue, as the ex-Hajduk Split midfielder prepares to return to Italy.
Chelsea will have plenty of decisions to make regarding their returning loanees amid their ban from signing players this summer.
