Saif Rubie has claimed that Antonio Rudiger was very happy to stay at Chelsea but was unwanted by those previously at the helm.
The centre-back left Stamford Bridge this summer upon the expiry of his contract and joined Real Madrid after five years in west London.
The German international was signed in July 2017 for £29m from Roma and went on to make 203 appearances for the club and won five trophies as a Blue including the Champions League.
However, the 29-year-old was let go by Chelsea after their offer of an extension was rebuked.
Football intermediary Rubie has now claimed that Madrid’s offer was the smallest on the table and the fact that he wasn’t wanted by the previous regime was a major driving force behind his exit.
Speaking on talkSPORT he said: “The previous owners of Chelsea for whatever reason didn’t see value in keeping him on.
“The Real Madrid deal was the smallest deal on offer. There was a club in England that was offering almost double the amount, there was a club in Europe offering double the amount.
“The player, when Real Madrid wasn’t coming in for him, when PSG, when Juventus, when all the clubs, this was public knowledge he was very happy to stay at Chelsea.”
Rudiger played 54 times for Thomas Tuchel’s men last term starting all but four of their Premier League games and recording a solid 7.11 average SofaScore match rating for the season.
However, it is clear that he wished to move on for whatever reason and Todd Boehly has wasted no time in replacing the German by bringing in Kalidou Koulibaly and Wesley Fofana in order to cope with the loss.
