The Sun journalist Tom Barclay feels that Conor Gallagher ‘really could suit’ Graham Potter and kickstart his Chelsea career.
The Blues’ academy graduate has made five appearances this season, starting in three Premier League fixtures, after a breakthrough year with Crystal Palace last year.
Having scored eight goals and providing three assists in 34 Premier League appearances for the Eagles, Gallagher received his first English call-up but he has endured an indifferent start to the campaign, receiving two yellow cards in the win over Leicester and leaving his previous manager Thomas Tuchel visibly frustrated as he started against West Ham.
Nevertheless, the 22-year-old starlet now has a chance to impress his new coach Potter, but Barclay is under no allusion that the tireless midfielder can make an impact under the English manager.
He told GIVEMESPORT: “He has played, even with that red card. There has obviously been a change of manager now and Graham Potter has come in.
“It’s up to him to win Potter over, as it’ll be for all of the Chelsea players. But, when you actually look at Gallagher’s attributes, I think he really could suit Graham Potter.”
Hailed as a ‘manager’s dream’ by Palace boss Patrick Vieira, it is clear that there is potential within Gallagher and while it will be up to him to send Potter a message, the manager will be hoping himself to get the best out of the £22.5m-rated gem.
Last season, Gallagher averaged a SofaScore rating of 7.08 however he has posted the lowest average in a Chelsea shirt at the start of this campaign with an underwhelming 6.4.
With a place at the winter World Cup at stake, an uplift of form is needed and Barclay seems to be under the impression that that’s exactly what we may be about to witness.
