Journalist Simon Phillips believes Chelsea are readying themselves for a bid from Bayern Munich for Kai Havertz.
The German giants are said to be interested in Havertz and according to a previous report by Phillips, a serious offer could be made.
That same source suggests that if the reigning Bundesliga champions made an attempt to land the 23-year-old in the recent window, then Havertz himself would have pushed to force through a move.
The Blues paid around £76m to bring the 28-cap Germany international from his home country at Bayer Leverkusen in 2020.
However, it appears that the £150k-per-week ace could be set for a future elsewhere with the west Londoners now braced for an approach.
Phillips told GIVEMESPORT: “I think Chelsea are expecting that.
“They know there’s interest there. They’ve known that for a while so they’re waiting for Bayern to make that offer.
“But you know, that will be in the summer, that won’t be in January.
“Chelsea wouldn’t entertain it in January.”
Journalist Paul Brown recently speculated what the future of Havertz may look like after a change in the dugout, claiming that the German was ‘100% a Tuchel man’.
With Graham Potter now in charge, The Sun’s Alan Nixon reported that Armando Broja was catching the eye of the new English coach, leaving Havertz’s place in the team in doubt.
He was among Tuchel’s most used players in west London, making 74 appearances under his compatriot, but his form has recently dipped with only one direct goal involvement in eight matches this term.
Phillips himself has previously claimed that Havertz may well be on borrowed time at Stamford Bridge and it will be interesting to see if he does look to return to the Bundesliga, after 36 goals and 25 assists in 118 matches for Leverkusen.
