Chelsea are set to enter contract talks with 26-year-old homegrown talent Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
That is according to journalist Simon Phillips, who has informed GIVEMESPORT of both parties’ intent to discuss an extension.
The 10-cap England international is into the final two years of his £150k-per-week deal with the Stamford Bridge outfit, with Phillips understanding that talks between club and player will soon commence over a new deal.
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Phillips said: “He wants to extend, and I believe that, as of now, people at Chelsea continue to be happy with him and will soon enter talks to extend.”
Decision made?
It is no wonder why Chelsea are looking to extend Loftus-Cheek’s spell in SW6.
Having featured in all 11 of the Blues’ Premier League games this season, he has been a vital tool for the side, with his nine starts evidence of that.
Whilst he has failed to establish a solitary attacking return this season, it goes without saying that this is not what he has been brought into the squad to do.
His presence alone in the middle of the park is vital, with his positioning key in the Chelsea build-up, seeing him serve as an enabler for others.
Perhaps the most important part of Loftus-Cheek’s game though is his versatility, which has been made use of by Potter, having deployed him as a central midfielder, defensive midfielder and a wing-back already this season.
He’s an all-rounder for Chelsea, and that makes him an invaluable asset to the side.
