Chelsea ready to let £70m summer signings leave already

Chelsea did spend some money during the summer transfer window, although they had to stay within certain limits after a €31 million UEFA fine for breaking their financial rules. That might have affected that kind of targets they ended up signing.

The Blues were looking like the team to beat as the comparatively young side beat Barcelona 3-0 and held onto a 1-1 draw against Arsenal at Stamford Bridge despite being a man down at the end of November 2025. But it all started to crumble down for Enzo Maresca as his side’s run of good form started to dry out. It ultimately led to the Italian’s sacking at the start of 2026.

Now despite a bright start to life under new manager Liam Rosenior, Chelsea are back to square one. The same side who were vying for the top spot in the Premier League during first couple months into the season are now finding it hard to stay within touching distance of the top four.

The Blues’ summer additions have scored a total 15 goals in the league till now with Joao Pedro netting 11 of them while Estevao has netted twice as Liam Delap and Alejandro Garnacho have only contributed one goal each. Jamie Gittens and Jorrel Hato have not even found the back of the net in the Premier League so far.

As it seemed before the start of the season, Garnacho and Delap were thought to be the ones who would provide the side with goals and assists. But now things are not looking as bright. The duo are finding it hard to get into the starting lineup under Rosenior.

Alejandro Garnacho and Liam Delap Dilemma for Chelsea

Now according to Fichajes, Chelsea are seriously considering parting ways with Garnacho and Delap. The club understand that restructuring the squad is essential to maintaining competitiveness in the Premier League for the 2026/27 season. The Blues need to free up wage space and recover liquidity to make new signings.

Garnacho cost the Blues a sum of £40 million as the Argentine moved in from Manchester United while the Blues paid £30 million to Ipswich Town for the transfer of Delap during the summer of 2025. But now with them being out of form, it would be hard for the club to make a profit from the departure of the duo before the start of the 2026/27 campaign. They would be looking to recoup as much as possible.

Although there won’t be any lack of suitors for the two Chelsea forwards. They are still young and highly talented, who unfortunately for the Blues, have misfired this season. In a different environment, they could still make an impact.

Although there is no concrete news of a probable summer departure for either Delap or Garnacho. even if such a situation ever arrives, the Blues should carefully consider before sanctioning an exit. Just one season might be too soon to judge a player.
