When Chelsea met Barcelona earlier in the season, it was a completely one-sided contest. The Blues won 3-0 and it could have easily been so much more. Nobody could have guessed back then how quickly their season would end up unraveling.
A little over a month after that Barcelona match, Enzo Maresca was sacked. Differences with the club management behind the scenes was believed to be the primary reason. But the results had not been particularly impressive either.
Liam Rosenior was brought in as his replacement. But constantly changing managers will not solve Chelsea’s problems. They need to strengthen their squad and modify their transfer model, if they want to consistently compete with the best in Europe.
That means backing Rosenior with new signings in the summer. On the other hand, it could also mean saying goodbye to a few established names. I have a feeling there is going to be a lot of speculation around Pedro Neto over the coming weeks and months.
FC Barcelona are interested in Pedro Neto
Neto has faced heavy criticism in recent times. To me, it feels like a movie we have seen a million times before. And it almost always ends with the player leaving in the summer. Unsurprisingly, rumours have cropped up about there being interest from abroad.
According to Mundo Deportivo, FC Barcelona have Neto on their list of potential signings should they decide to further strengthen their flanks. His agent, Jorge Mendes, is very well connected with the La Liga club. But for now, there is nothing beyond monitoring the situation.
The report from the Spanish outlet further goes on to state that Neto has a clause in his contract that would facilitate his departure should he wish to embark on a new adventure.
Could Pedro Neto be about to leave Chelsea?
It feels like Neto is starting to fade away at Chelsea. And with Geovany Quenda set to come in this summer, competition for places is going to be even higher. If the right offer comes in, the Blues must consider the Portuguese international’s exit.
Before Chelsea signed Neto, they were believed to be interested in Michael Olise. I do not need to tell you that that would have been significantly better signing.
The Frenchman has gone on to establish himself as one of the best in Europe. On the other hand, the Portuguese international has been hit-and-miss throughout his time at Stamford Bridge. And now, it might already be coming to an end.
