Chelsea consider making €45m transfer bid for Lens midfielder

Four years into the BlueCo project, it is safe to say that things are not going as Chelsea fans had envisioned. Despite making significant investment into the squad, the club have taken several steps back. They have gone from perennial contenders and Champions League mainstays to a side that struggles to even finish in the top four.

It is now looking very likely that Chelsea will miss out on the Champions League qualification spots. While teams around them are picking up form, the Blues have won just one of their last five Premier League outings.

Will that lead to Chelsea reconsidering their transfer strategy, which has revolved around signing youngsters while overlooking the need for experience and proven quality? Well, if recent reports are anything to go by, they seem to have no such plans.

A fast-rising midfielder from Ligue 1 appears to be the latest name on their radar. And it looks like the Blues are already considering a bid for him.

Chelsea reportedly considering bid for Lens midfielder Mamadou Sangare

According to Africafoot, Chelsea are considering submitting an offer of about €45 million to sign Mamadou Sangare. The Premier League club would like to leave him one more year at RC Lens before arriving at Stamford Bridge.

That means that Sangare could arrive at Chelsea in the summer of 2027, if a deal can be done. The Ligue 1 side will be listening to offers for the 23-year-old.

Who is Mamadou Sangare?

Sangare started his career on the books at RB Salzburg. The Austrian club have a reputation for developing talent. But in the case of the Malian midfielder, he did not get a real chance there. Instead, he spent his time out on loan at various clubs.

Eventually, he would end up joining Rapid Vienna, which is where he got his big breakthrough. That earned him a €8 million move to RC Lens. He has not looked back since.

Sangare has played his part as Lens currently sit at 2nd in the Ligue 1 table. He has also won the most tackles in the French top division this season. It makes a ton of sense that he has caught the eye of Chelsea, who are always on the lookout for talented youngsters.

Sangare is someone Liam Rosenior should know well, from his time managing in France. Of course, his own long-term future at Stamford Bridge is up in the air after a poor run of form.
