We are four seasons into this BlueCo project. And it might heading for its lowest point. During that Graham Potter era, at least one could have made the excuse that they needed time. Well, they have had quite some time now. And there is not one aspect where Chelsea are in a better place now than they were during the Roman Abramovich era.
The defeat at the hands of PSG in the Champions League was the latest indicator of how badly this BlueCo project is failing. There is no shame in losing to the European champions. But there is a way of getting knocked out of the Champions League. An aggregate 8-2 defeat most definitely is not it.
Chelsea did not look anywhere near PSG’s level. And the French side have actually struggled this season. They needed play-offs to even get into the round of 16. In Ligue 1, their lead is just one point.
If Liam Rosenior had any hope turning things around at Chelsea, that is now all gone. The fans have turned. And when that happens at Stamford Bridge, there is one inevitable result. At least that used to be the case. Who knows where we are these days.
Chelsea fans send blunt message to BlueCo after one-sided Champions League defeat against PSG
There has always been talked about this project since Clearlake-Boehly took over. The suggestion that Chelsea are building one of the best teams in Europe. Time is the only thing that they need.
Let’s be honest though, there is no indication that this team is even capable of competing with a decent team. When was the last time Chelsea got the better of Arsenal or Manchester City? They can’t even make into the Champions League most seasons.
Most Chelsea fans have had enough. As Rory Jennings wrote on X a couple of days back: “Chelsea are a disgrace. This ridiculously-named ‘project’ has failed on every conceivable level.”
Today Jennings followed that up with a video of fans leaving Stamford Bridge with the caption: “30 minutes left in a Champions League knockout game. This is a new low for Chelsea Football Club.”
Another popular Chelsea fan account wrote: “Genuinely the worst Chelsea performance I’ve seen in the UCL, BlueCo have ruined this club.”
This BlueCo project is over and they must change
Now, whether you agree with Jennings on most topics or not, there is no way of debating this. After spending about a couple of billion dollars, this is not where Chelsea should be. It is remarkable how badly the club’s management have handled this rebuild. At times, it is has felt like they have been more concerned with reinventing football rather than sticking with the proven method of what gets wins. They have spent just as much money, without any of the success to show for it.
What is even more worrying is the fact that they have shown no signs of changing their ways, even after years of failure. That is probably what has frustrated the fans the most.
Whatever this recent iteration of this project is should end tonight. Changing the manager is not the solution. Yes, it is most likely that Rosenior is not good enough and needs to be replaced. A proven winner needs to be appointed. But whoever comes in, will not succeed as long as this model is in place.
