After the events of the last few days, it looks like Enzo Fernandez is likely to leave Chelsea this summer. First, reliably Argentine journalist broke the news that there were chances of the Argentine’s exit. Then, after losing 8-2 against PSG on aggregate, the midfielder himself refused to rule out the idea of departure.
When things like this start coming out, it almost always leads to the player’s exit. Fernandez might have a long-term contract with Chelsea. But that rarely stops players from engineering moves away in modern football.
You can see Fernandez’s side as well. A World Cup winner at both club and international level, he is someone who will want compete for the biggest prizes in football. But four years into the BlueCo project, Chelsea don’t even seem capable of qualifying for the Champions League consistently. And even no the odd occasion that they did, a 8-2 aggregate loss to PSG showed where they are when compared to Europe’s best teams.
Rumours suggest that the likes of Real Madrid, PSG and Manchester City would be interested in signing Fernandez. On the other hand, it looks like the Blues already are closing in on a deal for another Argentine international.
Chelsea close to agreeing deal for Argentine international
According to Ekrem Konur, Chelsea are closing in on Valentin Barco. Talks are in an advanced position. The deal is nearly done.
Of course, Barco currently plays for Strasbourg. That would make any move for him easier. We have seen Chelsea already sign multiple players from their sister club. That being said, is this the kind of signing that will please the supporters?
Fans won’t be impressed with Valentin Barco move
It is never smart to write someone off before you have seen them play for your club. But Barco simply does not seem like the kind of signing Chelsea need right now.
In fact, he is the exact type of signing that has brought the club to this situation. Another highly-rated youngster who might or might not reach his potential. Best-case scenario, he will be a squad player. In fact, we have already seen him struggle in England with Brighton & Hove Albion.
What Chelsea need right now are proven, experienced winners. Players who will walk straight into the starting XI and make this team better. But it does not seem like BlueCo agrees with that view. There has been little to suggest that they do, especially if they are going out and signing another Strasbourg player.
