Man City working on deal for Chelsea player “99% sure” to leave

The 8-2 aggregate defeat at the hands of PSG will go down as one of the worst results in Chelsea history. But this might just be the beginning of the Blues’ problems. Four years into the BlueCo project, the club have shown no signs of progress. In fact, they have been moving backwards since sacking Enzo Maresca.

BlueCo seem to believe that it will take them a few more years to start competing for trophies. The issue is, most of their top players might already be looking to leave.

In recent days, there has been a lot of speculation surrounding Enzo Fernandez. Argentine journalist, Gaston Edul, broke the news that there were chances of the midfielder leaving Chelsea this summer.

Fernandez himself added to the speculation by not ruling out an exit after the PSG defeat last night. And now, it looks like clubs are lining up to sign him.

Manchester City, Real Madrid, PSG and more want to sign Fernandez

According to The Chelsea Chronicle, Simon Phillips has claimed on Si Phillips Talks Chelsea that Manchester City are one of the clubs working on signing Fernandez. The others are PSG, Real Madrid, Al-Hilal and Al-Nassr. One source has told the journalist that the Argentine World Cup winner is “99% sure” to leave this summer.

Fernandez was the first big signing of this BlueCo project. If he does end up leaving in the summer, fans will be hoping that it signals the end of their strategy.

Top players leaving Chelsea was inevitable

This was always going to be the issue for Chelsea. You can talk all you want about projects and trusting the process. But as long as you can’t show any kind of success for it, top players are not going to stick around.

Someone like Fernandez will know that there is plenty of interest in him. Real Madrid, Manchester City and PSG are arguably the top three clubs in world football, in terms of your hopes of winning major silverware in the coming years. As for Chelsea, no kind of success seems to be on the horizon if changes are not made.

Unfortunately, the damage might already be done. North of a billion pounds have been spent on this squad. UEFA have already sanctioned Chelsea as well, meaning they will be working under financial constraints for the foreseeable future. It might take years for the Blues to fix this. Worryingly, it does not seem like BlueCo have even recognised how badly things have gone wrong.
