There has been a lot of talk surrounding Enzo Fernandez and the Argentine’s potential move away from Chelsea in recent weeks. The fact that he did not rule out an exit, when asked about it, has fans worried. And considering how poor the Blues have been this season, failing to take the step forward that was expected of them, it is hardly surprising that key players might be considering their future.
Fernandez is not the only player who seems to be weighing up his Chelsea future at the moment. If reports are anything to go by, there are plenty of others.
With the club in need of a squad revamp, some exits might actually help them. There are quite a few players who are not having much of an impact on the team right now.
But on the other hand, there are those who could be key to any chances Chelsea have of being successful in the future. The Blues must make sure that they do not end up leaving. Of course, the long-term contracts do give them a certain level of control over the situation.
After Fernandez, five other Chelsea players named as potential exits
According to The Chelsea Chronicle, journalist Simon Phillips has claimed that Wesley Fofana, Filip Jorgensen, Tosin Adarabioyo, Benoit Badiashile, Fernandez and Marc Guiu are trying to get out.
That is a long list of players. And quite a few the club invested a lot when trying to sign. So, it remains to be seen how many of them Chelsea are willing to part ways with.
If Chelsea fail to qualify for the Champions League, the squad could look very different come next season. Many would argue that it is about time as well.
Chelsea’s squad needs a revamp as soon as possible
Fofana was signed from Leicester City for around £70 million in BlueCo’s first summer transfer window since taking over. It is fair to say that the move has failed to meet expectations. The Frenchman is one of the Blues’ better defenders. That being said, he has never reached the heights he was supposed to.
He is not the only centre-back being linked with move away either. Neither Badiashile nor Tosin is a starter for Chelsea. And they might no longer be happy with bit-part roles, although, it is hard to argue that they deserve more based on performances.
Jorgensen recently found himself in the starting XI and failed to take the opportunity. A move away might be the best step for both parties at this point, although, Robert Sanchez looks to be short of confidence as well and made another costly error at the weekend.
Guiu was signed by Chelsea from Barcelona for around £5 million. It was believed to be a bargain deal. And it is possible that the club could bring more than that if he departs now. The initial hope would have been for him to succeed at Stamford Bridge though, something that looks unlikely.
