Over the last few days, there have been clear suggestions that Liam Rosenior still has the backing of Chelsea’s management. The briefings have come despite the Blues being on a four-game losing run. They have not even scored in the previous three matches. That is not what you expect from a squad that took more than a billion pounds to assemble.

Of course, it is not just down to the manager. Rosenior might not be cut out for the job. But there are serious doubts about how many are, when it comes to working under the BlueCo model.

Mauricio Pochettino showed signs of progress only to be shown the exit door after just a season. Enzo Maresca won two trophies and Champions League football, only to be sacked six months later.

For now, it looks like BlueCo are continuing to back Rosenior, but that can change very quickly, especially if there are any disagreements behind the scenes, as was believed to be the case with both Pochettino and Maresca.

Chelsea said to be eyeing Spanish manager in case Rosenior is sacked

According to TEAMtalk, Chelsea are keeping a close eye on Cesc Fabregas as a potential replacement for Rosenior should the Blues decide to part ways with their manager at the end of this season.

Fabregas is enjoying a brilliant campaign with Como FC right now. The Italian club have invested heavily and were always expected to do well. But even then, the Spaniard has exceeded those expectations.

Como currently sit at fourth in Serie A. They are also a team on an upward trajectory. So, do not be surprised if they finish higher than that. And it is also worth mentioning that they have the best defensive record in the Italian top flight, something that not many would have expected coming into the season either.

Could Fabregas be what the Blues need right now?

Fabregas certainly seems better suited to the Chelsea managerial role than Rosenior. The Spaniard’s start in management has been impressive, to say the least. But on top of that, you cannot overlook his p-pedigree from his playing days either.

One of the toughest tasks when it comes to managing top clubs is dealing with the pressure. Fabregas will be used to that. He captained Arsenal, won a couple of Premier League titles with Chelsea, was part of an iconic Barcelona team and even won the World Cup with Spain.

That kind of experience cannot be discounted. And that type of proven winner might be what Chelsea need at this moment.

Of course, there is always a certain risk that comes with managing a club like Chelsea. A bad start and questions will quickly be raised about the decision to appoint someone like Fabregas, who is still 38 years old and relatively inexperienced as a manager.

A bad stint at Chelsea would affect Fabregas’ rising managerial career as well. So, it remains to be seen if he would even be interested in such a move. Of course, ultimately, it all depends on what happens with Rosenior.
