Eduardo Camavinga has been linked with a move to Chelsea in recent times. The Frenchman joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2021. Even back then, the Blues were believed to have been keeping an eye on him. The rumours would crop back up a year later, when he was struggling for game time at Santiago Bernabeu.
Eventually, Camavinga did find his feet at Real Madrid and the rumours went away. But now, as he closes in on five years at Santiago Bernabeu, it looks like there is a possibility for the Frenchman to depart and start afresh elsewhere.
Camavinga has played a ton of roles for Real Madrid over the years, whether it be in midfield or defence. He has never really been able to establish himself as a starter though.
And with Real Madrid staring at a potential squad revamp, Camavinga has been suggested as someone who could end up heading for the exit door, as he is not a nailed-on starter. That would open up a chance for Chelsea to make their move.
Fabrizio Romano gives update on Eduardo Camavinga’s situation at Real Madrid
Of course, it is not rare for Real Madrid players to be linked with exits. But where does this Camavinga situation really stand at this point in time?
Well, Fabrizio Romano has dropped an update on the situation. And if Chelsea do indeed want to sign him, it will give them hope that a deal can be struck in the summer.
The Italian journalist said while speaking on his YouTube channel about Camavinga:
“So, we are not talking about a player, according to what I know, that is completely out of Real Madrid project. Real Madrid don’t consider Camavinga out of the project or a player to sell at all cost. But in case of good proposal, Real Madrid could consider the situation of Eduardo Camavinga in the summer. That’s the case, that’s the situation. Then, if this big proposal, attractive for the player and attractive for Real Madrid, doesn’t come, Real Madrid are not desperate. Camavinga is not going to be out of the squad or out of the project. Camavinga remains an important part of Real Madrid squad. If a proposal arrives, they could consider possibilities if the player wants.”
Fabrizio Romano confirms Premier League interest in Eduardo Camavinga amid Chelsea links
Interestingly, Romano has also confirmed that there is interest from Premier League clubs in Camavinga. The journalist said:
“From Premier League, some clubs have started calling to understand the situation of Camavinga already at the end of February, not even now. So, few weeks and months ago. So, let’s see what happens there, if they receive the right proposal for Camavinga, if the player is attracted or not, but at the moment I would keep an eye more on Premier League.”
It remains to be seen how the situation unfolds over the coming weeks and months. Judging from Romano’s comments, it feels like Real Madrid are open to an exit, if the right offer arrives.
Now, what kind of an offer would it take for Chelsea to sign Camavinga? One would imagine that the figure would be north of £50 million.
Would Camavinga be the solution to Chelsea’s current problems? Probably not. But he is someone who would add quality to the squad and some big-game experience as well.
At the same time, signing the Frenchman would be in line with BlueCo’s transfer model. Camavinga is still 23 years of age. And it is very clear that he is not even close to reaching his full potential. To do that, he might need to leave Real Madrid.
