It is Chelsea who need to strengthen their squad in the upcoming summer transfer window. But lately, the majority of the talk surrounding the club has been about potential departures. The likes of Enzo Fernandez, Cole Palmer and Marc Cucurella have all been linked with moves away. It is not hard to see why. They are quality players in a team that is struggling to compete for trophies.
On the other hand, there are also those who are not getting enough playing time at the moment despite being highly regarded. They could be looking towards the exit door as well.
Of course, that would be a worry for Chelsea, who cannot afford to lose any more quality. That being said, their inability to provide enough game time to some of their youngsters has put them in this position.
The likes of Manchester City and Barcelona are trying to sign one such player. We are talking about none other than Josh Acheampong.
Barcelona and Manchester City make contract to sign Josh Acheampong
According to Aaron Ramiro, Barcelona, Manchester City and Bayern Munich have made direct contact with Acheampong’s representatives ahead of the summer transfer window.
It remains to be seen whether Acheampong ends up pushing for a move from Stamford Bridge in the summer. It should come as a surprise if he does.
Chelsea’s defence has been shaky throughout the season and when given a chance, Acheampong has mostly impressed. Despite that, opportunities have been few and far between for the Cobham graduate. He has played 25 times this season but has amassed only 1204 minutes of action.
Chelsea cannot afford to lose a talent like Josh Acheampong
Acheampong is someone who is considered to have world-class potential. And in many ways, this might have been the perfect season to fit him into the first-team picture for the long-term.
Levi Colwill got injured in pre-season and was not replaced. On the other hand, several of their centre-backs have failed to impress. Trevoh Chalobah, a player BlueCo seemed keen to part ways with not too long ago, has been the club’s most consistent option in the heart of defence. That tells a story of its own.
Anyways, Chelsea cannot afford to lose a talent like Acheampong at this point in time. And they need to give him a lot more playing time than he is getting at this moment. Why did he not start in the game against Port Vale at the weekend?
