Chelsea want to sign £100m player to help unlock Cole Palmer

It is safe to say that it has been a while since we saw Cole Palmer at his very best. The last time might have been in that game against Bayern Munich, when he scored one and had another ruled out by VAR. Since his return from his most recent injury, the Englishman has looked a bit unsure and appears to be lacking confidence.

In many ways, that is understandable. He has been dealing with a persistent groin issue. But Palmer recently admitted that he is finally starting to feel fit, which should be a good sign for Chelsea. If they want to qualify for the Champions League, they need him at his very best.

The club might have a long-term plan to help unlock Palmer as well. It looks like they are trying to bring one of his best friends in football to Stamford Bridge.

According to TEAMtalk, Chelsea see Morgan Rogers as part of a long-term plan alongside Palmer. The duo are viewed as a potentially exciting partnership for the future. There could be a twist if they manage to sign the Aston Villa ace as well though.

Could signing Morgan Rogers lead to Cole Palmer’s exit?

Another club that is interested in signing Rogers is Manchester United. And the same report goes on to state that should he make the move to Chelsea, Man Utd would intensify their pursuit of Palmer.

Of course, Palmer grew up supporting Manchester United. Michael Carrick’s side look like a team on the rise as well, while Chelsea could miss out on Champions League football. So, the idea of a return up north could hold some interest for sure.

It is hard to imagine that Chelsea would be willing to let Palmer go though. Especially if they are successful in reuniting him with Rogers. The two played together during their days in the City Academy.

Where would Morgan Rogers fit at Chelsea?

Rogers can play as a number 10 or on the left flank. Of course, Chelsea could do with some strengthening in both those areas.

The club signed Alejandro Garnacho and Jamie Gittens in the summer. But neither has been able to convince that they are the long-term solution on the left flank.

On the other hand, Palmer is the only real option in the number 10 role right now. Fernandez has played there from time to time, but he looks better alongside Moises Caicedo in a midfield two.

So, someone like Rogers would shore up Chelsea’s options in both those positions. Signing him would not be simple though. Not only would Aston Villa want a transfer fee in the region of £100 million but they would also have to compete with the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United.
