John Terry unhappy with Chelsea’s controversial decision

If there is one person who knows what it takes to succeed at Chelsea Football Club, it is John Terry. His arms must have been tired lifting trophies as the captain of the Blues for so many years. After retirement, the Englishman has tried his hand at coaching as well but has not been able to land a managerial post yet. Perhaps it is not in the cards for him.

Terry continues to remain a prominent voice in the game though. And it looks like he does not agree with one decision Chelsea have made recently.

Chelsea are struggling to keep up in the race to qualify for the Champions League. The 7-0 win over Port Vale might have lifted the mood, but the Blues did lose the four games prior to that. In the Premier League, they have just one of their last six matches. They have lost three and drawn two of those.

That is not the run you want to be in at the business end of the season. And you want your best players available more than ever. So, the decision to put Enzo Fernandez for two games, including the one against Manchester City, has not gone down well with many, including Terry.

John Terry does not agree with Chelsea decision

Over the last few days, it looks like the situation surrounding Fernandez has settled down. He is believed to have apologised to everybody. And there does not seem to be any ill feelings behind the scenes.

Under these circumstances, what is the purpose of the ban? Fernandez is one of Chelsea’s best performers. The club are only hurting their own chances against Man City by leaving him out.

As Terry said on his TikTok (via The Chelsea Chronicle):

“I never really understand this, to be honest. He’s been one of our best players this season.

“He fights for the shirt. And I just think these issues can be dealt with internally because it feels like the only team that loses out in these instances are Chelsea.

“We go without one of our best players and captain or vice-captain for a really big game and an important part of the season. So I’m gutted he’s not playing. Hopefully we can still do the job without him.”

Leaving Enzo Fernandez out vs Manchester City could be a mistake

It would be safe to say that a large section of the fanbase does not agree with the decision either. The most important thing for Chelsea right now is qualifying for the Champions League. But by leaving out Fernandez, they are hurting those chances.

They have lost four of their last five games against Man City at Stamford Bridge. So, they will be heavy underdogs to begin with. And without Fernandez, they are trimming down their slim chances further.

The idea is that the club are preserving the dressing room culture with this decision. Well, what would preserve the winning culture at Chelsea would be building a squad that can compete with the best in the world. But that is something the management have not been able to do.
