Marcos Senesi has been linked with a move to Chelsea since the winter. Those rumours have re-emerged in recent days. It had been suggested that the Blues were one of the frontrunners to sign the Argentine international. And the news was welcomed by the majority of the fanbase.

Senesi is 28 years old, in the middle of his prime. He is Premier League-proven. And he has put up some of the best numbers in the Premier League this season when it comes to centre-back.

Of course, there are holes in his game as well. He struggles aerially. He has a tough time dealing with genuine pace as well, and can get dribbled past. That being said, he would certainly be an upgrade on the options available to Liam Rosenior right now.

Well, there is now a major update on the situation of Chelsea and Senesi. And it is not one that will please the supporters.

It looks like a move to Stamford Bridge is not on the cards for the Bournemouth centre-back. According to Nizaar Kinsella, Chelsea are not expected to move to Senesi.

Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have also been linked with Senesi in recent weeks though. So, he won’t have any lack of suitors in the summer.

As for Chelsea, this is unfortunately not the first time that the club have been linked with a move for a proven Premier League player, only for it to be ruled out soon afterwards. The same had happened with Antoine Semenyo in the winter as well.

What kind of centre-back are Chelsea looking for?

Chelsea’s recruitment at centre-back has been questionable at best in the BlueCo era. Wesley Fofana has been unlucky with serious injuries. But he still has been a starter when available. The likes of Benoit Badiashile, Axel Disasi and Tosin Adarabioyo have never looked like the part.

Jorrel Hato was brought in this summer. He looks more suited to playing at left-back though. On the other hand, one can only wonder why Josh Acheampong continues to be overlooked even when the defence is in such a poor condition. Things can’t get much worse. Why not give him a real run and see if he can become a starter?

It has been suggested that Chelsea will look to add some physicality to their defence this summer. A quality partner for Levi Colwill. Let’s see if that happens or not.
