Chelsea are once again facing a disappointing end to the season. Their poor run of games has been going on since December of last year, before the sacking of Enzo Maresca.
Despite bringing in Liam Rosenior as their new manager, the Blues now seemingly face an even worse situation. Their forwards have now failed to put the ball into the back of the net for the third match running in the Premier League. They lost 3-0 against Manchester City at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea’s last win at home in the Premier League came at the end of January against West Ham United. The Blues had won 3-2 against the Hammers in a tightly contested game. In fact, three of their last five wins have come against lower league opposition in Hull City, Wrexham and Port Vale.
Despite BlueCo still keeping faith in their new manager, the fans are getting restless as the Blues’ chances of Champions League qualification are slowly fading away. They are now closer to Bournemouth in 11th than Liverpool in 5th.
Chelsea legend set to become new owner of EFL club
Times like these make you nostalgic for the past. And one of the pillars in Chelsea football club history is now set to take his first steps in team ownership, having not gotten any traction in coaching.
According to The Sun, John Terry is poised to announce a £14 million deal for Colchester United alongside a consortium. The Chelsea legend is expected to have “significant influence” over the footballing side of the League Two club.
As of now, Colchester United is owned by Robbie Cowling. Reports suggest that Terry’s former Chelsea teammate, Alexandre Pato, along with his group, was also interested in taking over the fourth division side, but the deal broke down in February.
Is this the end of Terry’s coaching aspirations?
But the most intriguing fact to come out of the probable deal is that the former Chelsea captain’s nephew, Frankie Terry, is on the books at Colchester United. He is currently on loan at National League club Braintree Town.
It remains to be seen if this spells the end of Terry’s aspirations in coaching. He has not had a first-team role so far. As a result, it would be understandable if he is now starting to look at other routes. We can only wish him the best, whatever path he takes next in football. Captain. Leader. Legend. Forever.
