Several reliable sources have suggested that Chelsea plan to continue with Liam Rosenior as the long-term manager, even if they fail to qualify for the Champions League. His first performance review is planned for the summer of 2027. That being said, there is a tiny asterisk beside that statement. Football is a results-based business and if things continue in the manner they have over the last few weeks, the ownership might have no choice but to change their stance.
Chelsea have won just one of their last seven games in the Premier League. Overall, they have lost five consecutive games against top division opponents and gone scoreless in the past four. This feels like the final weeks of the Graham Potter era.
Many had raised their eyebrows at the idea of Chelsea appointing Rosenior. While he had done a decent job at Strasbourg, it was nothing extraordinary. And the Englishman clearly did not have the resume for the Stamford Bridge job.
The doubters have been proven right as Chelsea’s season has collapsed over the past couple of months. Champions League qualification is slipping away. In fact, they might not make any European competition if their form does not improve. Not just the supporters, but a lot of the top players are also starting to lose patient with this project, as evident from their comments in the media. And with every defeat, the pressure increases on BlueCo.
Intermediaries contact Chelsea about World Cup manager
One manager Chelsea had been heavily linked with in 2023 was Julian Nagelsmann. Ultimately, that move did not materialise and he ended up becoming the German national team boss.
Nagelsmann has a contract with Germany until EURO 2028. But it looks like his camp are already laying the foundation for a future move. You never know what can happen in a World Cup year.
As reported by TEAMtalk, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City have all been approached by intermediaries and made aware of Nagelsmann’s situation.
What does the future hold for Chelsea’s managerial hot seat?
It is hard to make any predictions about Chelsea at this point in time. It has never been easy during the BlueCo era, as a lot of the decisions they have made do not fit conventional football wisdom.
Will Rosenior remain the Chelsea manager next season? I do not know. But I am certain that BlueCo will give him every benefit of the doubt they can and every possible opportunity to succeed.
He is the most BlueCo appointment that they have made so far, bringing him in directly from Strasbourg. If this one fails, it is going to be a bad look for them.
