Chelsea eye German manager as Liam Rosenior replacement

Share

It feels like the end of the road is near for Liam Rosenior at Chelsea. The manager openly criticised his players and questioned their desire after their loss to Brighton & Hove Albion. It was not him trying to get a reaction out of them though. It seemed like a manager who had already accepted defeat and knew his time was up.

Five league games lost in a row. Not a single game scored. Chelsea’s worst run of form since 1912. Rosenior’s position as manager has become untenable.

Of course, you never know what BlueCo will do. No announcement has been made yet regarding Rosenior’s potential sacking. Instead, it came out this morning that the Women’s team would be playing their league games at Stamford Bridge from the 26/27 season.

So, it is very possible that Chelsea are looking to continue with Rosenior in charge against Leeds United in the FA Cup semi-finals, even though the manager has quite clearly lost the dressing room. Perhaps they will stick with him until the end of the season. Maybe some clauses come into play then that would make it easier for them to sack him. We do not know. But in the long run, even BlueCo have to know that this failed experiment cannot go on.

Chelsea eyeing German manager as potential Rosenior replacement

According to TEAMtalk, rather than Chelsea acting now, the last five matches of the season will be pivotal in determining Rosenior’s future. On the other hand, Germany national team’s head coach Julian Nagelsmann is among those under consideration. He remains highly regarded by both BlueCo and key decision-makers at the club.

Nagelsmann was believed to have come close to taking the Chelsea job back in 2023. Of course, since then, things have only gone backwards for the Blues. There have to be serious question marks over whether they can even be considered a ‘top club’ anymore.

Do they have what it takes to attract top talents anymore, whether it be players or managers? Have the last four years done irreversible damage?

What would Nagelsmann bring to Stamford Bridge?

For a change, Nagelsmann would be someone who has actually won a few things. Also, he has been at top clubs and worked under pressure.

Of course, his time at Bayern Munich did not go according to plan. But it was not a complete failure by any means as he won the Bundesliga with them. Before that, he had impressive spells at both RB Leipzig and Hoffenheim.

Currently, he is the German national team manager. It will be very interesting to see how they do at the World Cup, after their previous two failures in 2018 and 2022. They are on a seven-game winning streak. That being said, they have struggled against top level opposition, losing to the likes of France, Spain and Portugal.
