Anthony Gordon is someone who has been linked with a move to Chelsea this summer. Of course, this is not the first time that the Blues have had him on their radar. Going back to 2022, the first transfer window under BlueCo’s watch, the Englishman was thought to be one of the players the club were keeping an eye on.
The move did not happen and Gordon has only grown as a player since then. He has scored 10 Champions League goals this season, which have earned the attention of European football’s giants.
In domestic competitions, he has been a steady performer for years. But now, he is drawing the interest of clubs like Bayern Munich.
Obviously, that would make it tougher for Chelsea to sign the winger. But there is some good news for the Blues in the race to sign Gordon from Newcastle United.
Bayern Munich talking with other candidates already
According to Sky reporter Florian Plettenberg, there have already been club-to-club talks between Bayern Munich and Newcastle United regarding Gordon. The Magpies’ initial transfer demands were up to €90 million.
Barcelona, Arsenal and Liverpool are also informed on the situation. Realistically, the fee is expected to be around €75-85 million, including bonuses. Bayern Munich will not pay that. That is why talks with other candidates are also ongoing.
So, it looks like Bayern Munich are having second thoughts regarding a move for Gordon, considering the transfer fee that Newcastle United want. That does open up a window of opportunity for Chelsea to make a move.
Should Chelsea make Anthony Gordon move?
Do Chelsea think that Gordon is worth making that sort of investment? He has been a consistent performer in the league for years.
That being said, he is not someone who has ever broken through and established himself as one of the best in the Premier League. So, there might be ceiling there.
On the other hand, Chelsea do need to strengthen their ranks on the left flanks. The signings of Alejandro Garnacho and Jamie Gittens have not worked out, and the former might already be heading for the exit door. Geovany Quenda will come in but it might too early for him to be considered a starter.
It remains to be seen what the club’s transfer moves will look like this summer. But Gordon does fit the Premier League-proven mold, which the Blues seem to be eyeing right now.
