Marc Cucurella has been linked with a move away from Chelsea for quite some time. Reports in Spain have gone as far as claiming he is certain to play in La Liga from next season. Barcelona and Atletico Madrid have been suggested as the two most likely destinations. Real Madrid have been loosely brought up as well.
At the end of the day, it might all come down to finances though. Barcelona have already shown they have spending power once again, having signed Anthony Gordon and still continuing to chase the signature of Julian Alvarez. Atletico Madrid have made big-money signings in recent years as well. Nothing at Real Madrid can be said for certain until the club’s presidential situation is sorted.
That being said, there is a certain limit to the transfer fee clubs would be willing to pay for a 27-year-old left-back. Chelsea’s asking price when it comes to this particular had not been brought up yet. But now we know the number. And it might be out of the reach of certain clubs.
According to talkSPORT, Chelsea are prepared to part ways with Cucurella this summer provided that their transfer valuation is met. That figure is expected to start around €70 million [£61 million].
Chelsea have set their asking price and it is quite high
There is no doubt that Cucurella has been one of the best left-backs in the world for the past two-and-a-half seasons or so. He did start slow at Chelsea but found his feet under Mauricio Pochettino.
His form went up a level under Enzo Maresca. He showed that he was not only a tenacious defender but also valuable going forward as well.
That resulted in him being hailed as one of the best left-backs in the Premier League. Consequently, that means he is one of the best in the world.
That being said, it is a steep fee to ask for a left-back who is 27 years of age already. You can see Chelsea’s side of things. But would any club be willing to pay that figure?
Will Cucurella get a move away this summer?
It is very clear that quite a few of these players are interested in leaving Chelsea this summer. It is not hard to see why that is the case either.
Chelsea have not been amongst the best in Europe for quite some time now. Someone like Cucurella will have aspirations to compete for the biggest trophies.
There is little chance of doing that at Chelsea, unless Xabi Alonso comes in and completely turns things around. But will Cucurella get a move away?
