Over the past few months, Chelsea have been linked with a variety of players. The fans have been left impressed by some of those names, not particularly interested in several others. Of course, recruitment has been one of the Blues’ weak points over the last few years. It has been one of the major factors behind their struggles under BlueCo and something that needs to be fixed with Xabi Alonso in charge.
Alonso is expected to have more of a say when it comes to transfers. So, it did not come as a surprise when the club were linked with a player who had been on his radar at Real Madrid as well.
The player we are talking about is none other than Andrea Cambiaso of Juventus. The left wing-back looked like a logical target, considering the Marc Cucurella exit links.
Cambiaso has played for Juventus for the last four years and is a full Italian international. It would make sense to sign someone like him if Cucurella left. But according to Bobby Vincent, the links are not true.
Chelsea are not interested in Juventus player
There are many who seemed excited by the prospect of Chelsea signing Cambiaso. But now, it looks like that is not on the cards after all.
It remains to be seen if the club will even strengthen in that position. To me, it feels like that will completely depend on the future of Cucurella.
If he does end up leaving Chelsea, then they will definitely try to strengthen there. In fact, they will have to. Jorrel Hato has done well but might not be a regular starter yet.
At the very least, he will need some competition. But if Cucurella does end up staying, then it would make sense to sign another player for that position.
Chelsea’s priority targets this summer
It does look like Chelsea have their eyes firmly on two positions going into this summer transfer window. One of them is centre-back.
Of course, it is easy to see why that is the case. It has been a problem position for the club for the past year now. Enzo Maresca’s request was overlooked. But it cannot continue like this.
On the other hand, they might also be looking for a versatile player who can play as a number and on the left flank. Morgan Rogers seems like the perfect candidate for that role.
Obviously, it will take a big transfer fee to sign him from Aston Villa. So, it remains to be seen if Chelsea make a move of that magnitude or not.
There might be other players as well, who Chelsea have picked out for that role, but names that are not doing the rounds of the rumour mill yet. One that would be a dream target for many is another Juventus player, Kenan Yildiz.
