Morgan Gibbs-White was arguably the best player in the Premier League in the final few months of the campaign. It is easy to forget but Nottingham Forest looked like genuine relegation contenders for a major portion of the season. It was his form that was instrumental in getting them out of there. Could a move to Chelsea be on the cards this summer?
Gibbs-White scored nine goals and provided two assists in his last 10 Premier League outings in the 25/26 season. Somehow, that was not enough to convince Thomas Tuchel to include him in the England squad for the World Cup.
That might convince Gibbs-White to seek a change of scenery. There has been a lot of talk about Chelsea looking to sign Premier League-proven and experienced players this summer.
According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea are among Gibbs-White’s admirers. However, Nottingham Forest want him to give it at least one more year.
Chelsea interest in Gibbs-White confirmed
So, Chelsea do hold interest in Gibbs-White. And many fans believe that he is a better player than Morgan Rogers.
While I would not try to make a direct comparison, both of them have their strengths, it is safe to say that either would strengthen that left side.
Versatility can be another of Gibbs-White’s strengths that convinces Chelsea to make their move. He mostly plays as a number 10 but can play on the left flank as well, or even as a second striker.
With Xabi Alonso’s fluid system, that kind of versatility might come in handy. Also, Gibbs-White is a leader, having captained Nottingham Forest to safety. As a result, he would also add in that department to this young Chelsea squad.
Would Gibbs-White be the right signing?
It is impossible to predict the future. But on paper, Gibbs-White would tick a lot of boxes that Chelsea are looking for this summer.
He is Premier League-proven. At 26 years of age, he has experience but at the same time, he might not even be in his prime yet. And the leadership quality has to be a positive after all this talk about signing ‘mentality monsters’ for Alonso.
At the same time, it could all depend on how much Nottingham Forest would want to part ways with Gibbs-White. If they are even open to the idea at all.
Elliot Anderson looks set to leave this summer. Would Nottingham Forest be open to another one of their key players leaving alongside him?
