Former Chelsea boss admits mistakes after brutal Stamford Bridge spell

Liam Rosenior has admitted he could have handled parts of his Chelsea spell better after returning to management with Paris FC.

Rosenior lasted less than four months at Stamford Bridge after replacing Enzo Maresca midway through last season.

His reign ended following five consecutive Premier League defeats without a goal, with Chelsea turning to Xabi Alonso for their latest rebuild.

The 41-year-old has now returned to France on a contract with Paris FC until June 2028. He previously impressed in Ligue 1 during his time with Strasbourg.

Speaking at his unveiling, Rosenior accepted responsibility for some of the problems he faced at Chelsea.

“We joined the club in the middle of a season and at a difficult moment, and I learned many lessons,” Rosenior said in comments carried by Yahoo Sports.

Rosenior sends message to Alonso

Rosenior said there were decisions he could have handled differently, although he also believes there were positive elements during his short tenure.

He wished Chelsea well and described Alonso as a “fantastic manager” who can take the club forward.

Rosenior also intends to apply the lessons from Stamford Bridge as Paris FC look to establish themselves higher in Ligue 1.

The comments provide his first detailed reflection since leaving Chelsea in April.

As Read Chelsea recently examined, Alonso has focused on professionalism, mentality and daily standards since beginning work at Cobham.

Rosenior inherited a difficult situation after Maresca’s departure but failed to halt Chelsea’s decline during the closing months of the campaign.

His final run ultimately made a change unavoidable, although his work at Strasbourg ensured he retained a strong reputation in France.

Paris FC finished 11th last season and have significant ambitions under the Arnault family’s ownership.

Rosenior will now attempt to rebuild his career while following Alonso’s progress at the club he left behind.
