Chelsea agree £50m Liam Delap sale as Forest medical booked

Chelsea have agreed a deal worth up to £50million to sell Liam Delap to Nottingham Forest, with the striker scheduled to undergo a medical on Wednesday.

Sky Sports reports that Forest will pay at least £45million, with add-ons potentially taking the transfer to £50million. The Guardian describes the structure as £45million plus £5million in bonuses.

The agreement would make Delap Forest’s record signing. However, the move remains subject to the medical and final paperwork.

Liam Delap set for Nottingham Forest medical

Delap was left out of Chelsea’s squad for Monday’s 3-2 victory over Fulham after falling behind João Pedro in Xabi Alonso’s attacking plans.

Pedro started at Craven Cottage and scored inside the opening minute. The Brazilian has also inherited Chelsea’s No.9 shirt and signed a new contract until 2034.

Forest manager Oliver Glasner spoke directly with Delap before the 23-year-old accepted the proposed move. Fabrizio Romano reported on Tuesday evening that a verbal agreement had been reached and the medical booked.

Chelsea reshape striker group

Chelsea signed Delap from Ipswich Town for a reported £30million in June 2025, handing him a contract until 2031.

The Blues are therefore guaranteed to receive around £15million more than that original fee. The difference could reach £20million if every add-on is triggered, although that is not the same as an accounting profit.

Chelsea are also negotiating Nicolas Jackson’s potential departure after Aston Villa submitted a proposal worth around £60million.

If both transfers are completed at their maximum reported values, Chelsea could generate up to £110million from the two striker sales.

Delap’s move is the more advanced, but official confirmation must wait until his medical and the remaining formalities are completed.
