Something that has been written in the stars for about a week has just come official: Andre Schürrle has been sold. Wolfsburg has purchased the 24-year-old German winger for a reported fee of £24M.
At Wolfsburg, he will team up with former Chelsea midfielder Kevin De Bruyne.
Schürrle has been in disappointing form in the 2014-15 season, and especially disappointing after playing a role in Germany’s World Cup-winning team. I will miss Schürrle, but the fact of the matter is that he doesn’t have a role in this squad.
After a very solid first season with Chelsea, recording eight goals and two assists while playing 1327 minutes in 15 games, Schürrle has been largely a disappointment in 2014-15 — and it mostly isn’t his fault.
As a right-footed player that loves to cut in and shoot, Schürrle has been forced to the right wing because Eden Hazard is out of this world. The fact of the matter is that Schürrle is not going to start over Hazard, barring injury, and especially considering we’re knocked out of the F.A. Cup and are in to the knockout stage of the Champions League.
On 13 June 2013, Chelsea confirmed the signing of Schürrle from Bayer Leverkusen for a reported fee of £18 million.
We will miss you, André. Thankyou for everything.
