talkSPORT panellist Simon Jordan has slammed Chelsea supporters ‘surprised’ by Thomas Tuchel’s sacking.
On Wednesday morning the club announced that they had parted company with the German coach thanking him for his services which saw the tactician guide the Blues to their second Champions League trophy a mere five months after being appointed in January 2021.
Tuchel saw his side slip to their third defeat in 17 days as they opened up their Champions League group campaign with a 1-0 defeat to Dinamo Zagreb in Croatia.
The Athletic journalist David Ornstein has since reported that Tuchel’s departure was ‘unrelated’ to Tuesday’s humbling in Zagreb as the decision had already been made to relieve the head coach of his duties.
Plenty of supporters have been left in shock in wake of the news but Jordan insists this is what Chelsea has become.
Speaking on talkSPORT he said: “Let’s be clear, Chelsea over the last 22 years have kept a manager in a job for an average of 528 days.
“This is not something that anyone should be surprised by.
“This is not something people should be sitting going ‘oh I’m disgusted, I’m appalled’, the outrage of Chelsea fans almost beggars belief. This is what your club has done for 22 years to a list of managers from Felipe Scolari up until Antonio Conte.”
Just 100 days into the new regime at Cobham it does seem as if the new owners in Todd Boehly are continuing down a trail blazed by Roman Abramovich who prove cut-throat when it came to the hiring and firing of managers.
However, as talks with Graham Potter quickly escalate it may not be too long until the ship at Stamford Bridge is steadied with the English coach hoping to buck the trend laid bare by Jordan.
